ns2.censurfridns.dk will shutdown october 1st and is being replaced with anycast.censurfridns.dk!

ns2.censurfridns.dk (89.104.194.142 / 2002:5968:c28e::53) has since the beginning in october 2009 been running on a Comendo IP address from a Comendo datacenter. For different reasons the time has now come to shutdown the old ns2 and replace it with the brand new anycast setup. The anycast setup is based on our own AS number AS198794 and our own IP nets 91.239.100.0/24 and 2001:67c:28a4::/48.

The IP address for the new anycast DNS server is 91.239.100.100 and 2001:67c:28a4::.

So to sum up, uncensoreddns DNS server IP addresses are now:

  • 91.239.100.100 (anycast.censurfridns.dk)
  • 89.233.43.71 (ns1.censurfridns.dk)
  • 2001:67c:28a4:: (anycast.censurfridns.dk)
  • 2002:d596:2a92:1:71:53:: (ns1.censurfridns.dk)

The old ns2 IP addresses (89.104.194.142 / 2002:5968:c28e::53) will be operational until october 1st 2014. I'd hoped for a longer overlap with both servers running but that hasn't been possible, so:

Make sure you update DNS configs everywhere, at home, on your servers, on the router in the holiday home, at your parents, etc. etc.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Comendo for years of service. They've been hosting ns2.censurfridns.dk for close to 5 years, with no reward other than a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Thank you!

91.239.100.100 og 2001:67c:28a4:: is part of uncensoreddns' own "provider independent" IP ranges. This allows for some new possibilities:

  • It means that we can keep using these IP addresses regardless of any future ISP changes.
  • The same IP addresses can be announced from multiple AS numbers / ISPs, so we can make redundancy across multiple ISPs.

At the time of writing we only have 1 node behind anycast.censurfridns.dk which is located at Solido Networks (AS59469), but we are preparing a node at Forskningsnettet (AS1835) (Danish network for Research and Education) which will be online soon.

Big thanks to both Solido Networks and Forskningsnettet for the help! If you work at an ISP or hosting provider and you would like to host an uncensoreddns node, please contact us via mail or on IRC or on Twitter!
